IIM Student shocked in Interview – Cries foul!!
Mr. Amit Alagappan, who is one of the many students of the prestigious IIM A has made shocking accusations against a MNC that came for recruitment. Apparently they had asked Mr. Alagappan to recite the Indian National Pledge as part of the interview!!
“I was shocked! I do know from Facebook ,Twitter and other social media feeds that Indian Pledge was adjudged as the best by UNESCO, but didn’t really expect someone would ask me to recite it ever, leave alone an interview! This is ridiculous!! Why would I even remember it now – Yeah I do have some vague memory of telling the pledge with keeping one hand in air, back in school assembly days. I am not someone who is not patriotic. I have voted for Indian national anthem, Taj Mahal, National Pledge, some Meenakshi temple from Madras and other Indian things when ever UNESCO conducted polls in social media. And yeah recently, I did raise my voice in Facebook and twitter through sharing posts on elections and raising intolerance. I also ate a piece of beef without telling anyone – isn’t that being patriotic!
From when did people start expecting this from IIM grads. Anyway in a couple of years I m gonna apply for L1 and go to US man. There is no pledge there. Already I have started commenting on US politics and economy” – Mr. Alagappan was quoted. He looked visibly shocked and in grief.
Mr. Alagappan has received a lot of support from his alumini for his facebook outrage against the MNC through the campaign – “1like/1comment/1share = solidarity” and “#westandwithAlagappan”. Some of them have asked since when did India have a pledge. Some liberals have attacked Modi and RSS for forcing Hindutva by way of National Pledge. One of the supposedly liberal journalist (who is the real reason for R Rajan to flee the country in such a hurry) had tweeted – “I dono national pledge! Modi, can you arrest me?”
The MNC issued a clarification statement in its Facebook page and Twitter handle on this whole incident. Excerpts as follows: -“This is all a big misunderstanding. We wanted to try something different during the interviews on this homogeneous crowd. So our human investment consultant had come up with this great idea to filter people.”
